Hidden Treasures in the New Year

Have you ever thought about God’s blessings as a treasure hunt? I often pass by hidden treasures in the busyness of life. As we begin a new year, I thought instead of making resolutions we will likely break, why not use this year to write our own family book as we look for the hidden treasures God freely gives us each day.

To find a hidden treasure, I like to have a treasure map. My favorite map is the Joy Dare Collection by Ann Voskamp. She offers something for my family to search for each day. The Joy Dare Collection is located in the Free Tools of her dashboard. January 1 is 3 Gifts Heard. During the day our ears will be open for the hearing of 3 joyful sounds. Will they be children laughing, a special song by the choir, or the warble of a bird in a nearby tree? At the end of the day my family and I can share the joyful sounds – the sounds God used to bless us. We can then announce the treasure hunt for Day 2: a gift outside, inside, on a plate; or we can wait and announce Day 2 at breakfast.

Ann also offers free printables of booklets to record the three Joy Dares each day. The booklets can be bound together with ribbons to make beautiful memory books. I joyfully dare you to write your own book this year by finding God’s hidden treasures in your life.

He hath made the earth by his power,he hath established the world by his wisdom,
and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion.
When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens,
and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth;
he maketh lightnings with rain,
and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.

Jeremiah 10:12,13
