Where did God come from?

Has a child ever asked you any of those—or similar—questions? Asking questions is how children learn. For every answer they receive, they have a dozen additional questions waiting to be asked. Some questions are easy. Others stump us!

It doesn’t help that we still ask similarly difficult questions as adults…

How can God be three in one?

Where is heaven?

How could Jesus be both God and man?

We won’t completely understand some things until we are finally in God’s presence. But just because we don’t fully understand the triune nature of God or the location of heaven does not make them any less true.

Still, there are other things we don’t understand that God does intend for us to know. And it’s up to us to share that information with the children in our lives. If we don’t know We can teach them a valuable lesson by answering truthfully and in age-appropriate ways.

If we do not know the answer to their question, the best response is:

“I’m not sure. Let’s look for the answer together in the Bible.”

And for the spiritual questions we just don’t have an answer for this side of heaven? The best response is:

“I don’t know yet. But someday, when we’re with Jesus in heaven, all our questions will be answered.”

So the next time a curious child in your life asks you a question about God, research the answer together. By doing so, you’ll nurture a desire to seek answers to their questions in the Bible!
