Make a Drawstring Book Bag
Last Saturday we began planning a Read, Write, and Sew Camp for preteen girls. Having a camp is a great way to give girls an opportunity to be creative and to explore a Christian book together.
Let’s talk about making a drawstring book bag to carry that book.
Choose a fun fabric and ribbon. You will need 18″ X 22″ of fabric, 1 yard of ribbon, and thread that matches the fabric. I used a different color thread to show up in the pictures.
Fold the fabric in half with the right sides together. Sew along the bottom of the bag and up the side. Leave a 1 1/2″ opening for the ribbon.
Iron 1/2″ down at the top of the bag. Then, iron another 1 1/2″ down to make the casing for the ribbon.
Sew along the bottom of the pressed edge. This will make the casing for the ribbon.
Pull the ribbon through the casing and tie the ends together.
Add the book for your camp or any favorite book that you want to take along for summer reading.
Enjoy!
