The Christmas Closet
I dug inside my closet to find our Christmas things.
I found some scented candles and a silver bell that rings.
I dusted off the reindeer and set them on the shelf.
I found some handmade ornaments I made all by myself.
I took the children’s stockings and hung them in a row,
Beneath a pinecone wreath with a crimson velvet bow.
The quaint ceramic village I handled with great care.
I placed it on the mantle with whips of angel hair.
I found some lights and garlands and strung them on the tree,
I put an angel on the top for everyone to see.
And then I found the manger scene so neatly tucked away.
I gently picked up every piece and put it on display.
Joseph and the wise men, a shepherd with his sheep,
And virgin Mary watching as the Christ child lay asleep.
Somehow I was reminded by this sweet Nativity,
That God took on the form of man in all humility.
He came to earth to live and die because of His great love,
That we might have eternal life and reign with Him above.
So as you celebrate this time with gifts and garlands too,
Remember, please, to honor Him, the One who died for you.
Here’s to remembering the REASON for the season!
