Finish the Dream is unlike any children’s book I have ever read. It isn’t a story, with a beginning, middle and end. Instead, it is an imaginative journey through five realms of God’s creation. The book is meant to be read aloud to a child at bedtime, as the child closes his or her eyes and drifts off to sleep.
Each segment starts with a Bible verse about a part of the natural world, such as the ocean or the galaxy. The author begins a “dream” voyage for the child, describing what might be seen as they ride on a cloud through a beautiful place in God’s world. After a detailed fantasy-like description accompanied by colorful illustrations, the child is invited to “finish the dream” as he or she falls asleep.
I would recommend reading only one of these descriptive narratives each evening. Reading in a slow, soothing fashion will allow the child to prepare for sleep while visualizing the dream-like images. For very young children, the descriptions might be a little long, but could easily be shortened as you read. I especially like that every segment reminds the child of God’s love at the end.
This is my own honest opinion and I received no monetary compensation of any kind for my review.
