Capturing the Moment with Children
When was the last time you had a magic moment you could share with your children or grandchildren? Magic moments come in all shapes and sizes. I especially love to capture the hatching of butterflies, moths, cicadas, and tonight my magic moment is the hatching of baby chicks. Our grandchildren don’t live close enough to share this event live, but with cell phones that have cameras that take both pictures and videos, we can still capture the moment and share it the next time we see them – or share it with them on Facebook and let it happen sooner.
This sharing can happen both ways. For instance, my daughter and her family live about 450 miles away – in the part of the country where the 17 year cicadas are hatching out all over. When my daughter was a child we shared the experience of watching them hatch out. My father had shared it with my brothers and sister and me when we were young. My daughter is now sharing the experience with her children, taking great pictures, and sharing them with me. I in turn put them up on my Honeycomb Adventures blog. You can see them here. Not only did she share through taking pictures, my grandson Jonathan took the excitement to another level and drew pictures of the cicada and of some of the stages it went through to emerge from its shell and complete its metamorphosis. Here is Jonathan’s drawing of the cicada. (Can you tell I’m a proud grandma?)
What are your magic moments? Your magic moments may be totally different from mine. Perhaps they happen in the kitchen, or around a piano, or in your hobby room. It could be a trip to a special place. You may want to think up ways to make them happen – plan ahead so you can share the activity with your grandchildren the next time you see them. And take pictures to save, share, and remember.
Please take a minute to share your idea of a magic moment you enjoy sharing with your children or grandchildren in the comments below.
