How to Raise Superheroes
Do you want to raise superheroes, children who will change the world? Lead your family in these nine steps and watch your children transform into superheroes before your eyes.
1. Introduce your family to Jesus.
Every superhero has a moment when they go from being ordinary to extraordinary. Help your children understand that every person who has asked Jesus to be in charge of his life has already undergone the greatest transformation anyone ever could.
2. Learn about someone in trouble.
Visit www.persecution.com to read the stories of people all over the world who are suffering because they believe in Jesus. And, check out www.kidsofcourage.com for examples of how to share these stories in an age-appropriate way with your children.
3. Pray.
God alone knows the best way you and your family can change the world. Ask Him to show you what to do next.
4. Learn how to help.
One way you can lead your family in helping Christians is by checking out Prisoner Alert, a way The Voice of the Martyrs has created for people to write letters to Christians who are in jail all over the world. Help your family write a letter from the Prisoner Alert website to one or more of the Christians you learn about.
5. Pray that God uses the letters to help.
Imprisoned Christians don’t want to be forgotten. They need to know someone cares about them and their situation. They long to know we are praying for them. Only God can help them be strong when they are hurting and separated from their families.
6. Pray that God’s love will reach everyone at the prison.
The people in charge of the prisons don’t always give the letters to the Christians. But sometimes, God uses the letters to help the prison guards find out about Jesus and His love for them.
7. Learn more about the countries you send letters to.
There are many ways you can learn about life in the countries of the Christians you pray for. Websites, articles, books, newsletters, and stories about Christians all over the world are available for adults and children alike.
8. Keep praying and sending letters.
There is always someone who needs your help. Even when letters don’t lead to the release of a prisoner, sometimes God uses them to lead the prison officials to treat the Christians more fairly or get them medical attention when they need it because they know the international community is watching.
9. Recruit some allies.
Every superhero needs strong allies to help fight the battles and help the hero when he’s in trouble. Ask other families to pray for the prisoners and their guards, and ask them to pray that you and your family will be faithful to follow God in whatever ways He leads you to change the world.
As parents, you already hold the title of “superhero” in your child’s eyes. Teach them how to be superheroes in the eyes of people they may never see. Show them it can be done in nine simple steps.
