My Review: If you are looking for a way to teach your child about gratitude, then look no further than Graceful Gabby Finds Love in Blue by Crystal Marable. This story is about a little girl named Gabby; she is nicknamed Graceful Gabby by her grandmother. In this book, Gabby is disappointed because her new room is not painted her favorite color. That is when her grandmother steps in and explains the Fruit of the Spirit to Gabby. Specifically, Gabby’s grandmother tells her that her room is perfect because it’s filled with love. She encourages her to look around the room for ways her parents showed their love for her.
The illustrations in this book are vibrant and lifelike. This book is a wonderful depiction of the relationship between a child and her grandmother. In addition, this books is a wonderful reminder of how when life disappointments us, we should go on a gratitude/love search. You can also use Graceful Gabby to teach children how to express love and appreciation to others. There are also deeper meanings in this book, such as looking at things from a different perspective, love is an action and how to severe others in love.
There are several things I wish this book included, such as a reference to the Fruit of the Spirit in the Bible, or how the other fruits of the spirit could be used to cope with disappointments. However, these minor issues should not deter you from buying this book.
About the Author: Crystal Marable has had a love for writing since she was a young teenager writing poetry and keeping a daily journal. She also has a heart and a desire to encourage and motivate girls to succeed in their lives. She encourages the development of positive thinking, positive knowing and positive doing. Crystal created the Graceful Girlz children’s book series to inspire our next generation of girls to develop in integrity, character, and self-esteem. Also, to teach Christian values that will last a lifetime and inspire them to live as girls of grace, continually growing into graceful young ladies. It is her vision that these books will inspire our girls to display in their own lives, as well as share with others, the Fruit of the Spirit that God gives us: love, joy, peace, kindness, gentleness, patience, goodness, faithfulness and self-control; changing the world by celebrating the gifts within.
