Signing at a Book Convention for Librarians
My publisher flew my daughter Rebecca (co-author) and me to Texas to sign our new book at the Texas Library Convention in San Antonio.
What fun to chat with people who love books! As an author, it’s not the norm for publishers to fly authors to signings, but we enjoyed the wonderful experience. We visited the Alamo and riverfront. Once on the exhibit floor we enjoyed browsing booths of books for children and youth. What we saw inspired us to think of new books to right or publishers to connect with who might want our proposals. The exhibit opened with a reception where we munched and chatted with book lovers! Librarians always want new books and to find out what’s new. They like discovering new authors and finding out what’s popular. We passed out lots of business cards and showed our book that we’d be signing.
Librarians took workshops and received free copies of books. Other books were available for purchase at great discounts. I find book trade shows almost overwhelming with so many titles offered and feel amazed that my books can even be found and purchased among all the choices.
We signed free copies from Harper Collins of Nature Girl. It was interesting to watch librarians figure out they were complimentary. The first people who lined up were librarians we met. We offered bookmarks and premade kits for librarians to make an earth day card that’s in the book. Many exclaimed, “That’s what I’ll do for earth day this year!” A number of the librarians posed for photos with us. One young girl shared my daughter’s name so she’s very interested in reading what another Rebecca White wrote!
I also signed My Princess Devotions and handed out bookmarks. I ran out of the books with a line of people still waiting. The first stragglers to come and get a copy showed it around and that brought librarians wanting a complimentary copy.
Since I plan to move soon I resisted getting more books for the most part, although half a dozen found their way home with me. You can find our names among the authors who signed. We felt honored to participate.
