Meaningful Moments for Moms and Grandmas
When my editors at Tyndale found out I was going to be a grandma, their creative wheels started to spin. Together we came up with an idea to write a book of short rhyming devotions for grandmothers to share with their grandchildren. My Grandma and Me came out in 2012 and has been well received by the baby-boomers who are now grandparents. The book gives grandmas an opportunity to not only spend quality time reading to their grandchildren, but also to talk about things that matter–like how special they are and how much God loves them. They can talk about why it is important to read the Bible and pray. They can use the devotions to help little ones understand how to treat each other with love and kindness. The devotions also address emotional issues that little ones can relate to.
The mothers who bought the book for grandmas said they wanted one too. So the following year My Mama and Me was released. The book is similar in style but also includes fun (but simple) mama-and-child activities. The short, rhyming devotions center around three questions: Can You Tell Me about God? Can You Tell Me about Jesus? How Can I know God Loves Me? What Can I Do to Show God I Love Him?
Mother’s Day will soon be here. Let’s celebrate motherhood and grandmotherhood by sharing God’s love with the little ones in your life.
