Surprise Cups
My kids were picky eaters. I had to be creative in order to get healthy food into their growing bodies. One of their favorite snacks was something I called “Surprise Cups.” Here is how you make a Surprise Cup:
Start with a plastic mug just the right size for little hands. Place two or three small treats at the bottom of the mug (like gummy fruits, chocolate chips, or M&Ms). Then fill the cup with healthy snacks like diced apples, small slices of bananas, grapes, or orange slices. You can also mix in some cubed cheese and diced carrots (if your child is old enough for hard carrots.) Sometimes I would include a few small pretzels for a salty touch. Once the cup is full, give it to your child and tell them there is a surprise at the bottom. BUT—in order to find the surprise, they need to eat their way to the bottom of the cup. My kids never got tired of their Surprise Cups and it made eating healthy food much more fun.
Are you challenged by picky eaters? What successful ways have you tried to get your kids to eat the right kinds of food?
Here’s to eating healthy and finding fun surprises!
