Devotions for Beginning Readers
Christian parents want their kids to read good stuff! The words and stories kids read can influence their ideas and also their beliefs. The sooner parents get good books into the hands of their children, the better. That’s why Bible storybooks and Christian books for babies and toddlers are so popular.
Reading the Bible or a devotional book based on the Bible is a good way to get the truth of God’s Word into the minds and hearts of young children. My book, The One Year Devotions for Preschoolers (Tyndale) has been in the market for over 10 years. It has been printed 13 times and has been translated into seven different languages. This shows how much parents want good books for their young children. I’m happy to announce that I now have something to offer the next age group. Devotions for Beginning Readers (Thomas Nelson) is exactly what the title says. It is written for kids who are learning to read. Each page includes a Scripture verse, a 60-70 word devotion, and a prayer. The devotions are written specifically for children who are learning to read. Short sentences and easy vocabulary words allow for reading pleasure. Not only are the words carefully selected, but the ideas are also carefully selected and presented in a way that young children can understand them. The truth is not watered down, just explained in age-appropriate fashion.
Co-authored with Christy Lee Taylor, a mother of 3 young children, this book is recommended for kids ages 4-7. Even if a child is not ready to read, having the book read by an adult will help the child understand important messages from God’s Word. And it will be only a matter of time before the child will be reading the devotions to the parents!
