Mentoring Young Believers
Not long ago, an editorial director challenged his blog readers to create a mission statement. When I thought about the books I write and what I wanted to accomplish through them, my mission statement looked liked this, “Sharing the message of hope with young people.”
Now, when I crafted this statement I was thinking of “young” as in Church youth. But when we’re talking about faith, there is another definition that applies: “new” believer. A new believer can be of any age; and just like we mentor our children in the faith, the Church needs to help new believers understand the Scriptures so they grow spirituality and have a strong foundation to weather the storms that life sends their way.
In his new book, Climbing for Roots, author Alan Noble explores some of the basic doctrines of our faith, in addition to the responsibilities and privileges of those who have put their trust in Jesus. If you’re placed in a position where you are mentoring a young believer, this could be a resource for you to turn to because it is written in easily understood text. New believers will also find this resource helpful if reading it alone. Noble has dedicated his life to the spiritual welfare of young Christians, and his passion shines through with this book.
Does your church have a mentoring program for new believers? If so, what resources do you use?
