Another Cold One!
Many states in the US are experiencing another cold and snowy winter. The snow is pure and breathtaking when it settles on tree limbs and front lawns. But it can be messy and bothersome as it fills parking lots and driveways. Snow has a purpose, just like rain. The prophet Isaiah spoke of its purpose and compared it to God’s Word. Isaiah 55:10-11 says, “As the rain and snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so it is with my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”
God’s words in the Bible are like rain and snow that nourish the earth. They give life to dry souls and cause them to bud and flourish. God’s Word has a purpose, and it will achieve that purpose because of God’s power and sovereignty. The Word also refers to Jesus. God sent Jesus to earth for a purpose, and He did not return to heaven until He achieved that purpose. Jesus was sent to earth to offer His body as a living sacrifice for our sin so that we might have eternal life through believing in Him.
Whether you live in snowy climates or warm, sunny places, remember the sacrifice of Jesus as we anticipate the celebration of Easter. Jesus’ words on the cross, “It is finished” told the world that His purpose on earth had been completed.
When the snow finally soaks into the ground and evaporates into the heavens, flowers will bloom and birds will sing. The new life we see will be a welcomed sight to us, just as a new life in Christ is a welcome sight to God.
