Children’s Magazines
I believe it’s important to encourage children to read magazines. In school or at Sunday School they may get short 4 page mini-magazines, but hopefully they get a Christian magazine, maybe one that’s just fun, and maybe one about nature or the world. It broadens their minds and they get something created just for them.
I’ve written for a number of children’s magazines and love how the full color and current look makes it attractive. I’ve done puzzles, stories, and facts. At the moment I’m doing a craft activity for The Kid’s Ark. Check some of the magazines out from Ranger Rick to Pocket and Clubhouse.
Kid’s magazines often have a way for children to send in jokes, drawings, or enter a contest. There’s a good variety of content that includes stories, puzzles, crafts or recipes, facts, and Bible devotions. It keeps a child’s mind thinking and sparks their creativity.
I recall getting Jack and Jill as a child and later some teen magazines. I loved getting something fun in the mail just for me. I could go cover to cover in day or do a little at a time. It depended on my schedule and whims. It led me into reading adult magazine like Reader’s Digest and National Geographic. I found that magazines had the latest in what’s happening, and rich information on places or animals in the world.
