Vacation Bible School in October?
Vacation Bible school is one of my favorite church events. Usually it’s done over the summer while kids are out of school. But this year, my church is doing it in October while the kids are on their fall break. You see, I live in Arizona and the summer is not the best time for us to have VBS. It’s too hot to be outside and many folks take off for cooler country to escape the heat. In the past, we’ve always buckled down and had it in June anyway, braving the triple-digit temps and providing plenty of cool water.
But this year, when I started talking about VBS, my pastor asked a couple of valid questions. “Is there any reason we have to have it in the summer? Why not wait until it cools off a little?”
Eureka! What a great idea. I’m only disappointed I didn’t think of it myself. So this year, I’m directing a fall VBS the first week of October. We’ll see how it affects our enrollment. But I can tell you, our workers will love the cooler temps. I can’t wait to see what God will do.
Have you or your church ever thought outside the box and done something different than it’s ever been done in the past? Tell us about it in the comments.
What a great idea, Linda!
I agree–a brilliant idea! Lots of us will be waiting to hear how it turns out.
Wonderful idea! I’ve considered having additional mini Bible school events at several times in the year to keep up the momentum for reaching the children.
