Let’s Color!
You’ve probably heard about the latest craze for adults. It’s coloring books! Publishers have been thrilled with the overwhelming response to coloring books for adults—and many adults are enjoying them. Some say it helps them calm down and de-stress. One woman claims her high blood pressure has gone back to normal since she started coloring for 15 minutes a day. Whatever the reason, people young and old love to color.
Crayola Crayons were created by Binny & Smith in 1902 and offered for sale in 1903. Alice Binny, wife of co-founder Edwin Binny, was a school teacher and wanted a less expensive coloring tool than the imported crayons of that time. And so the Crayola Crayon came to be and is still going strong.
Coloring books for chilren are often created as spin-off products to compliment popular themes or animated productions. Some coloring books simply address different interests of young children. From Disney characters to puppies and kittens, the world of children is captured on the black and white pages, begging to be colored.
I am happy to announce that Discovery House is offering a coloring and activity book to compliment Our Daily Bread for Kids, a 365 devotional book I co-authoed with my daughter, Teri McKinley. But this is more than a coloring book. Yes—it has pages to color and fun fill-in-the blank and word search activities. But it also has a message. Every coloring page represents a character or an event from the Bible, and every coloring page has a caption that sums up the story. From creation to the resurrection, to how we can show God’s love to others, it’s all there—in a coloring book!
Now you and your kids and grandkids can color for the joy of coloring, while being reminded of God’s amazing love for us. And that should lower anyone’s blood pressure!
Here’s to coloring with purpose!
