Christmas Traditions and Children’s Books
Tomorrow will be November 1st. I LOVE November. It is a time of remembering the blessing of family and friends. It is a time of gathering together and looking forward to celebrating Jesus’ birth at Christmas.
So why am I writing about Christmas reading when tomorrow will only be November 1st?
My inbox is already sprouting ads for Christmas gifts as well as an abundance of links to articles on staying calm and organized as the holidays approach.
It can get pretty busy, can’t it? That is why I think we should start to talk about Christmas reading now.
Sharing a book with a child is a wonderful way to keep the busyness at bay and keep the focus on time with family and the real reason for Christmas.
Let the Christmas reading begin!
- Choose a time to read with your children as we approach the Christmas season. Make it a consistent time that takes priority over trips to the mall and decorating. This tells your children that they are a priority over the activities.
- Make book choices together. You might choose a combination of treasured books from your own childhood, Christmas themed books, a new devotion book, or books that you simply want to explore and enjoy together.
- Create a special reading tradition. Where will you read? Having a consistent reading place adds to the stability of routine and positive expectation. Perhaps consider a special snack to enjoy, something that is saved for just these reading times.
What would you add to the list? Are you ready to let the Christmas reading begin?
