So Your Child Would Like to Be an Author
Many families are looking ahead to summer activities for their children. Sports camps are plentiful, but suppose your child would like to be an author.
Becoming an author is not an easy endeavor.
Like any worthwhile pursuit, becoming an author takes hard work, patience, learning from the right people, and having the right tools. If your child is interested in writing and is focused on God’s will for his or her life, it may indeed be a life-calling.
“And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” Esther 4:14
This is the first part in a series on helping a child explore the world of writing.
If your child is drawn to writing, you can give them fun tools. Think back to the sports analogy. The child who loves baseball might get a bat, a ball, a gear bag, special shoes, etc. as gifts. When it is gift-giving time for your would-be author, consider the following.
- Fun pencils, pens, and markers
- Notebooks of various sizes and designs
- A dated diary or journal
- A ream of paper
- An ink cartridge
- A camera
- An audio recorder for their thoughts and for interviewing others
- A writing bag to store and transport their things
- A mug with a writing logo
- A t-shirt with a writing design
What would you add to the list of tools for aspiring young authors?
Next time, we will look at books for the young author.
Many blessings on you and the young creative in your home!
