Start Right…Finish Well
“Follow the yellow brick road.” Most of us know this road took Dorothy to the Wizard of Oz. What we may not realize is that we’re all traveling various roads. The question is, are we following the road we should be walking? Is it the path the Lord wants us to take?
When the Bible speaks about our “walk,” it’s usually a reference to how we are living. So when the apostle John wrote, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth” (3 John 1:4), he was referring to those who value the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and whose lives reflect that truth.
Some of us set out on the wrong road at an early age. We may look back with regret at our foolish choices. But regret can either paralyze or motivate. We can sit in a corner, nursing regret until it consumes us. Or we can allow regret to motivate us to share the truth with children and young people so they might learn from our mistakes.
How many regrets might they be spared if we let them know the hard road of perfect obedience has already been traveled for them by Jesus Christ. Think of the heartache a child may be spared later in life by choosing Jesus at an early age!
May every child be a living example of Proverbs 22:6 (NIV):
“Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”
If we want our children to finish well, let’s help them start well. Would you want your children to follow the road you’re on? If not, change your direction—then invite a child to walk with you today!
