Sing to the Lord
Have you noticed your child just singing, oblivious to the fact others are listening? When my daughter was a preschooler, she began to sing “Bictorwy in Jesus” (“Victory in Jesus”) at the top of her lungs as I pushed her in the buggy through a large department store. Other shoppers turned and smiled. I resisted the urge to shush my child. She was doing what most of us fail to do, singing to the Lord from her heart. Had she realized others were listening, she most likely would have stopped.
My granddaughter began to sing with the radio as we rode home from a ballgame. “Bwess the Wlord, O my Soul, Ohhhh my soul” (Bless the Lord, O my soul, Ohhh my soul). Her little heart was bursting with praise. We thought she knew the song, but no. No one in the family knew the song.
It seems to be natural for children to sing praises, implanting God’s truths in their hearts and ours. We struggle to impart Biblical truths, when maybe, all we need to do is expose them to the truth in song.
Colossians 3:16 says “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” KJV.
What songs are you singing with your little ones?

Our favorite songs to sing with our daughters when they were small were the Donut Man songs. They were all praise/worship songs and Bible songs. And since I played the piano for the praise band at church, they heard me sing and play praise music a lot. My oldest daughter, Anna, is severely developmentally delayed. She’s 25 but still functions at a low 18 months. And she still loves to praise the Lord. She loves to pray – she used to say amen, but now she cheers when we’re done “yay!”. And she loves to say “Thank you for this day” which is garbled, but we know what she’s saying and so does God. I’m sure He smiles along with us every night at dinner when my husband is praying and she’s almost shouting all through grace, “Thank you for this day!” And she loves to hear the name “Jesus” which she never fails to repeat when she hears it.
I love that you granddaughter could praise the Lord with no one teaching her … except the Holy Spirit, right? 🙂
Thank you Pam, for your sweet comments. you are exactly right. The Holy Spirit teaches our little ones how to praise. My sister in law was also severely delayed yet praising Jesus was her favorite activity. Jesus Loves Me was her favorite song. Blessings as you teach your children to worship.
