Teaching Thankfulness from the Bible
November is a time of thankfulness. Children can learn about being thankful for others, for circumstances (seemingly good or bad), for God’s world, and for God Himself by reading the Bible.
Here is a way to encourage thankfulness as well as skill in navigating the Bible. As children learn to read independently, it is critical for them to practice using the Bible and reading God’s Word for themselves. Later, they will feel confident searching the Bible for guidance and comfort through all the seasons of their lives.
This activity is a great opportunity for family devotions in the month of November.
- Help kids look up the words thank, thankful, and thanksgiving in the concordance of the Bible.
- Each day, have one of the children choose a verse to read from the list.
- Talk about the verse and how it demonstrates the thankfulness that God wants us to reflect in our lives.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. Psalm 100:4 NIV
