Join us in prayer for our country . . .
Our nation and our leaders need our prayers. This is true for all countries, but today it is especially true for the United States. We have been through a very bitter election and many people are hurt, angry, and bitter while others are rejoicing and looking forward to the future with great anticipation.
We need to pray. It doesn’t matter which side you were on before the elections, we all need to come together to pray for our country. A leader has been elected and he needs our prayers. In a few short weeks he will be our next President. Decisions he makes will affect our whole country – people who voted for him and people who didn’t vote for him. Our country needs to mend some open wounds.
God’s word tells us that “If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you.” Matthew 18:19b (NLT) I would like to start a chain of prayers with this post, and invite readers to add their prayers. Let us agree in prayer in as many ways we can find – prayers that will build our country up and keep us strong, and will draw the hearts of the people back to God. I will start this chain in my feeble way . . .
Father God, I come to you with a strong sense of hope and expectation that you are going to move in our country in a way that will bring peace to our people. I pray that people will be willing to recognize the hurting that is going on in the minds of those who were disappointed in the outcome of this election, and I pray that those who are hurting will be willing to recognize and respect any progress that may be made in our country in the days, weeks, and months ahead. Help us all to have open minds and help us to heal from the hurts and disappointments we may have felt.
I pray for President-Elect Donald J. Trump, that he will surround himself with godly people who will give him truly wise counsel as he leads this country. May President-Elect Trump as well as everyone he appoints to his cabinet feel the weight of responsibility they have been given, and may they continually seek you, Father God, for the wisdom that only you can give.
Be with our current President Barack Obama and help him to strive for a smooth transition between the two administrations. Help our citizens also seek a smooth transition. May those who have been struggling and resisting the change realize that we are all in this ship (the USA) together and if we sink, we all sink. Give them the desire to take peaceful steps to bring about the changes they want.
Help our country’s leaders to recognize and acknowledge the strong influence the Christian faith has had in the founding of our nation, and give them the desire to honor God in every decision they make. I pray this in Jesus name, the one who came to earth to show us your love through his selfless actions, even to the point of death on a cross. May our leaders and those who pray for them have the same servant heart that Jesus had. Amen
