Happy New Year!
Happy 2018! Another year is behind us; another year is ahead of us. The beginning of a new year often inspires people to set goals like finishing a project, eating healthier (after indulging for the last two weeks), exercising more, or spending more time reading the Bible. The list goes on.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with that! A new year gives us a fresh beginning. And although none of us knows what this year will bring, we can have peace in knowing that God will be with us every step of the way.
My husband and I are in the “sandwich” years. We have several aging aunts and uncles, and we still have my ninety-six-year-old mother. We have married children with careers and families, and five grandchildren who will soon be out of diapers. We may lose a loved one this year, but we may also be blessed with a new little life.
The beginning of a new year always reminds me of God’s forgiveness. The mistakes or wrongful choices I made in 2017, have already been erased. Ephesians 1:6-7 (KJV) says: To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.
Every new year and every new day is a gift from God to be received by His children.
I love this little rhyme I learned years ago from a Bible study leader:
Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow is a mystery.
Today is a gift from God–
that’s why it’s called the present.
May God bless you in the coming year!
