We all know the Christmas hymn “Silent Night, Holy Night,” but children’s author Jill Roman Lord is ready to take the hymn-writer on with her imaginative children’s book, The Silent Noisy Night. What if the animals knew what the rest of the world didn’t know on that holy night so long ago? Would they have been able to keep silent? Jill Roman Lord thinks not. Children all over will love to hear and imagine this story of cows mooing, horses neighing, little goats bleating and more. Would the shepherds have whispered the news? They holler the news in this story while townsfolk dance and sing. All the animals celebrate in their own special ways, and we and our children are encouraged to do the same today with our actions, songs, and words.
What a delightful story to share with our tiny tots with this beautifully illustrated, padded board book for children. The illustrations are charming and will capture the imaginations of the little ones as they listen to this story written in rhyme.
What do I like best about this book? The fresh approach to telling about the amazing birth of the Christ Child.
What do I like least about this book? The only thing that seems to be a slight negative is in one of the illustrations with a girl caroling wearing a coat that looks like Santa’s coat. I like to keep the nativity separate from Santa, but that’s not a biggie, and not a reason to overlook this little treasure.
I strongly recommend telling the whole story of the birth of Christ even while children are small. Teach them as much of the story as they can understand adding more each year. Fun stories like The Silent Noisy Night can add to the celebration without taking its place.
I was given a copy of The Silent Noisy Night for the purpose of writing this review. I was under no obligation to give a positive review. The opinions expressed are freely given.
