Little Free Library
A beautiful green bookcase has arrived in our neighborhood. The unit has four shelves and a clear plastic front allowing us to peer inside before opening the doors.
Positioned next to the sidewalk, a small bench invites visitors to pause and relax.
A sign reads “Little Free Library”. Everyone is welcome to visit, borrow a book or sit a spell and enjoy reading and conversation.
The new addition holds free books for all ages. Readers can visit and donate books or borrow books and return them when they have been read.
At all times of the day, I hear the conversation of families while they walk to the “Little Free Library”. Children, parents and grandparents are carrying books.
Watching others sharing the love of reading with children brings precious memories to mind. My parents took me to the local library every week and to visit the bookmobile.
I recall amazing conversations with my parents as we looked for books and chose the right ones. Mama and Daddy shared their love of reading with me.
A local family takes care of the books and donations of our “Little Free Library”. They make sure all books are appropriate for families. Shelves are marked fiction and non-fiction. A call goes out when more books are needed.
Summer is coming and vacation will begin. Check out your neighborhood and look for a “Little Free Library”. Do you have one in your area? If not, think about creating the special area. You may be creating special memories with loved ones.
