“Mom, I’m bored.” ANTIDOTE! 😇
Would you like an activity for family vacations, reunions, and to answer the ubiquitous summer complaint, “There’s nothing to do”? Rocks and pebbles have a magical lure. Who hasn’t picked up a few and added them to the collection at home? And if you’re on vacation, well those rocks on the beach or the in the woods, are simply irresistible. What if you showed the kids (no matter the age), what they could do with those rocks?
If you’re a planner, you can make hay while the sun shines, and collect rocks for Christmas gifts while it’s nice and warm (before it snows)! Imagine putting a little rock angel on a 5×7 board, writing in a saying or a scripture about God’s love, and BAM! you have a meaningful, inexpensive Christmas gift! Or, why wait for Christmas? Make a sweet “cheer you up” gift for a friend. Angels work all year round.
I made a few videos on how to make rock art. Here’s the most basic one: How to make angels with rocks in just 1 min!
If you’d like all my free videos and PDF ebooks on making angels or the nativity, check out my website at RocksTellStories.com.
Here is another videos the kids might want to watch to see what rocks to find and how to put them together:
Not only is it fun, but kids learn the joy of creativity, of being outside, of telling stories in symbolic ways, which develops their brains! My favorite reason is that I feel closer to God when I touch the things He made, and create with His creations. He always helps when we’re thinking about Him.I hope you have a ton of fun finding rock shapes and telling your own stories with rocks.
I’d love to hear how it goes. Please post pictures of your family’s rock art (and tag me!), and let me know how you inspired the kids to get involved. I’m on Facebook at Patti Rokus Artist.
Love,
