Frog’s Rainy Day Story and Other Fables
I remember how much my kids and I enjoyed reading Aesop’s Fables when they were growing up. Not only were the tales humorous and entertaining, they each had a moral lesson that offered bits of practical wisdom. That’s why I was honored to review and endorse Frog’s Rainy-Day Story and Other Fables by Michael James Dowling. Children of all ages, but especially the 8-10 crowd will want to read these fables over and over again. The animal characters, beautifully illustrated by Sarah Buell Dowling, jump off the page with personality and action. Readers will enjoy meeting Frog, Duck, Beaver, Pig, Rabbit, Turtle, Owl and many more colorful characters.
The fables are short and poignant, delivering a load of wisdom in just a few pages. Following each fable is a page that compares the Wisdom of the World to the Wisdom of the Word, which teaches us that the world’s point of view is often distorted truth, while the messages in the Bible are trustworthy.
A glossary at the back of the book defines some of the advanced words so children can easily look them up and build their reading vocabulary. This book will be enjoyed by all ages and belongs in every home and school library. I can’t wait to read it with my grandchildren.
I love everything about this book and am happy to give it the 5 smiles it deserves.
