Devotional and Bible Story Resources for Children
How often have we wanted good, solid and moral stories and devotionals for our children and grandchildren that we remember from our youth? Well, admittedly, they can be difficult to find.
I’d like to share some of the resources I used with my children during our homeschool years. My first is a lovely devotional for inquiring little minds: Leading Little Ones to God You will be delighted with the text, questions, and words to choruses (no tunes, so we made them up!) to engage children.
If you are looking for classic stories from the past that have stellar moral insights, consider Lamplighter Ministries. They reprint stories from the late 1800s and early 1900, with gorgeous embossed covers. They also have audiobooks, perfect to distract kids on a long trip. Their online catalog is well-organized and easy to navigate. The descriptions and categories further help to narrow down your choices. These books are a goldmine!
Best of all, they have a Guild every summer for students 18 and above which focus on the arts — film, culinary, photography, acting, and watercolor to name a few. Check out their website HERE.
Another engaging Bible story audio collection is The Bible in Living Sound covering Old and New Testaments. The Bible literally comes to life on CD. Your children will learn God’s Word in an enjoyable manner that will stick, even as they move into their teens.
And lastly, take it from a young woman who is passionate about Biblical fiction — Jenna Van Mourik. She has more resources than I can count — and they have all influenced her as a future author of Biblical fiction. Have your kids tune in and listen to her YouTube video. Jenna will inspire them!
I hope these ideas have sparked a renewed interest in classic Bible resources for children. If you have more suggestions, let me know in the comments below. . .
