Hope During Challenging Days
Yes, we are living in challenging days. Nobody in the entire world is exempt. Everyone is affected in some way, even if it isn’t directly. Many have found it difficult to focus, hard to find enough energy to accomplish routine tasks, and have struggled to adjust their routines to the new normal—which seems to change daily at times!
It’s for such a time as this that Jesus spoke comforting words. In Luke 21:28, He said, “Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near,” (NKJV).
There are so many ways to find comfort, strength, and hope during these days of uncertainty and stress. One of the best ways to start is to think of a Thankful List each morning when we plant our feet on the floor and climb out of bed. Personally, I like to start my list by thanking God for Who He is. He is King of kings. He is Lord of lords. He is sitting on the throne above any political power, whether seen or unseen. He is Omnipotent. He is All-Knowing. He is Wisdom itself. He is Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness. He is Omnipresent and with me every second of every day. Just reminding myself each day of Who God is gives me strength to begin my day, even before I start thinking of all the other things I’m thankful for.
Another precious way to get our soul restored and refreshed is to make it a priority to take time in God’s presence each day. Acts 3:19 explains what amazing impact this can have in our lives. “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.” Yes, we can experience wonderful times of refreshing in the very presence of the Lord any time we stop in the midst of our worries, concerns, and frenzied busyness to meet with Him.
And reading the Bible! We can let God’s Word wash over us and cleanse us from our doubts and give us anchors to cling to in the midst of a raging sea of trouble-filled news. Turn off the news for an hour, a morning, or a day. Instead, read and meditate on the Psalms, the Gospels, or any portion of Scripture the Holy Spirit guides you to.
Another source we can find hope and comfort in is through reading Christian books or devotions. I wrote a book called, DEPRESSION: WHAT’S A CHRISTIAN TO DO? This book is like a lighthouse that guides our hearts to find hope, safety, and peace in the midst of life’s storms. Its uplifting message has been used in our church’s prison ministry, in counseling, and with teens. A friend of mine recently told me how this book is helping her specifically through these challenging days and how she’s getting copies to share with all her friends so they can find hope, too. Thank you for this encouraging message, Nancy.
You’re welcome! So glad this encourages you!
During these challenging days, I am thankful to know we can find comfort in Him.
Yes, isn’t that true?!
