Magazines for Children
Grandson Rowan enjoys looking at books. He is almost three years old and is fascinated with dinosaurs, cars and trucks, animals and more. His collection of books is amazing. There are favorite stories he likes to have read each night before bed.
One of his other favorite things to look at is a magazine for children. The magazine subscription was a gift given to him by family members.
I remember receiving a magazine in the mail when I was a young girl. Opening the mailbox and finding something addressed to me was extra special. Our son also received a popular children’s magazine in the mail and looked forward each month for the newest issue to arrive.
I am thankful there are wonderful stories to read with Rowan. Also, very thankful for the magazines that encourage word building, math skills and creativity. Each month, the magazine brings a new possibility of adventure and fun on each page.
Before the coronavirus, medical offices and waiting rooms of all kinds usually had a table with books and magazines for children to view. I hope that when this virus is gone, those offices will again be filled with fun activities, books and magazines.
At this moment, waiting rooms are empty of any extra materials.
Have you ever viewed a magazine as a teaching tool? I remember when our son was young, we would read the articles over and over. The activity pages were completed. Coloring, word searches, jokes, and more were enjoyed.
After we completely finished reading and doing the activities, we would cut pictures and words out of the magazine to make a collage. Many uses for the magazine.
A magazine can be a great way to share time together. Read the stories aloud. Share the activities. Make a collage. When you are finished with the magazine, get excited about the arrival of the next issue.
Happy Magazine Reading,
Melissa Henderson
