Magazines for Children — 18 Comments

  1. Great post, Melissa! Authors often think of books first (because who doesn’t want to have a book with their name on the cover?!), but if you think of message reaching an audience first, magazines can be a rewarding way to go. I write often for Keys for Kids, a devotional magazine. It has a sister edition for teens, Unlocked. The bonus for authors is that the turn-around for response, publication, and payment is so much faster than book submissions. Getting accepted in magazines, newsletters, and anthologies as I was working on my first novel (sometimes even hearing back overnight) really encouraged me and let me know I was on the right track as a developing writer.

  2. Love this! When my kids were young, we received a monthly children’s magazine by subscription. It included stories, activities and more. Now I receive it for my grandchildren.

  3. I LOVED looking at kid magazines with my kids when mine were little. They felt so special receiving the magazines, and today they still (as preteens and teens) pick them up in the doctor’s offices and such and have fond memories. They are a great tool!

  4. Children’s magazines are such fun for kids and as one of your readers said, a wonderful place for writers to get published and reach a wide audience. Thanks for your post, Melissa!
