Book Review The Christian Mother Goose
Nursery rhymes are a wonderful way to introduce young children to the rich joy of language which can also lead to developing a love for reading. Plus, nursery rhymes are an important heritage to pass on to the next generation. The adult who remembers with fondness days as a little child spent singing beloved nursery rhymes, reading picture book treasuries of Mother Goose, or reciting favorite Mother Goose verses had a blessed childhood indeed!
And what better way to read nursery rhymes aloud than by also sharing your faith! The Christian Mother Goose Book of Nursery Rhymes by Marjorie Ainsborough Decker with art by Sarah Gibb is a delightful book to share with the children in your life.
Here is one of my favorite nursery rhymes in this book:
THERE WAS AN OLD WOMAN.
There was an old woman
Who lived in a shoe.
She had so many children,
And loved them all, too.
She said, “Thank you, Lord Jesus,
For sending them bread,”
Then kissed them all gladly
And sent them to bed.
And here’s an adorable rhyme to teach children the months of the year.
THE MONTHS RHYME
Thirty days hath September,
Thirty days to remember,
God loves you!
Thirty days, too, have April and June,
Thirty each to sing this tune,
“God loves me!”
Thirty days hath November,
Thirty days to remember,
God loves you!
January, March, July, and May
Have thirty-one days for you to say,
“We love Him!”
August, October, and December
Have thirty-one days to remember,
God loves you!
February only has twenty-eight,
Twenty-eight days for you to state,
“We love Him!”
But in Leap Year there’s some extra time,
When February then has twenty-nine,
Twenty-nine days to remember,
God loves you!
The sweet illustrations are cheerful and colorful. There are 62 pages chock-full of delightful and faith-inspiring rhymes to share!

Nursery Rhymes were so important to my childhood. We didn’t have books but the family helped us learn nursery rhymes and told us family stories about maddogs and panthers. When I did learn to read I consumed books! Thanks for sharing this new book.
I had to laugh when you shared about your family stories…what memories!
