Read and Discuss Baby Wren and the Great Gift by Sally Lloyd-Jones

In the book Baby Wren and the Great Gift by Sally Lloyd-Jones and illustrated by Jen Coraca (Zonderkidz 2016), Baby Wren compares herself to all of the other creatures and wonders why she has not been given their talents. She admires the monarchs, the kingfisher, the ring-tailed cats, the sunfish, and the eagles, but she cannot do what they were created to do. But she discovers what she can do…she can sing a BIG song…a song that fills the canyon. And it is wonderful.
Just like Baby Wren, all of us are tempted to compare ourselves to others and feel like we do not measure up. However, God made us exactly the way he wanted us to be!
Here are a few discussion questions to use in a conversation with your child after you read this book together.
–What special talent did each of the creatures have?
–Why did Baby Wren feel sad at first?
–Did Baby Wren have a special talent? What was it?
–How did she feel when she used her talent?
–What special talent do you have?
–How will you use your talent?
