Arrr-gust! Happy International Pirate Month!
Arrr-gust is International Pirate Month! So wherever ye be in the wide wide world, whether sailing the seven seas or searching fer buried treasure on a deserted island, bring out all yer favorite piratey books and celebrate!
A great book to start with is to read aloud with yer wee ones PIRATES ON THE FARM. (CLICK HERE to purchase online.) This delightful picture book by Denette Fretz and published by Zonderkidz in the Next Door series is a giggling, laugh-out-loud adventure. Me own wee grandkids laughed so heartily the first time we read it, we had to read it three times straight in a row! And along the way, they learned all about the Bible’s teaching of being neighborly and showing kindness to others.
For more rollicking good reads with a piratey flair, A PIRATE’S MOTHER GOOSE makes a great addition for celebrating all things pirate this month! (CLICK HERE to purchase online.) I wrote this meself! Avast, me hearties, tis a collection of Mother Goose nursery rhymes all with pirates and treasure galore! This book has the honor of laying claim by my wee nephew as his FAVORITE bedtime read-aloud every night when he was a tiny lad of two.
And to help ye celebrate this month with coloring pages and activities and crafts all for yer mateys and crew, CLICK HERE for free resources and printables. There even be a pirate dictionary to make sure ye get yer piratey words right!
One final note…if ye be a landlubber and starting back to homeschool this month. Or a teacher and starting back to yer classroom this month, ye’ll be wanting to use me teacher’s resource YO HO HO! A PIRATE UNIT WITH TONS OF FUN. (CLICK HERE to purchase online.) Pirate-themed posters. A piratey read-aloud play. Math time fun. Language arts games. Weather and science, too. Thank you, Nancy, for highlighting Pirates on the Farm! I did not know you had a pirate book; it sounds clever and fun.
Thanks, Denette! Yes, I love piratey tales!
What a fun post to read! I know these books will be fun as well. Happy to see pirate books that give a Christian understanding of good values along side the teachings about pirates.
Thanks so much, Janice!
As the creator of Arrr-Gust:International Pirate Month, we be pleased to see yer post!
Ahoy! Welcome aboard Captain!
I had never heard of these. How fun! Thanks for sharing.
Ye be welcome, Matey!
Ahoy mates!
My group, the Rogues’ Armada, originated this yearly observation and we are happy to see if being embraced. One thing that sets it apart from talk Like a Pirate Day (which we love too) is that this month asks pirate performers, reenactors and enthusiasts to also try to raise a little money for their favourite charity. One our facebook page you’ll find videos from an online event we did the past few year- a different pirate themed video every day and a request to make a donation to FeedingAmerica.org. We hope you check it out, and enjoy the last few days of ARRR_Guust!
