Caring for the Earth God Made
God created an amazing and beautiful world. He also asked us to care for the earth. Consider activities to do with children that help them be earth caregiver. Try these activities to be green:
- Be an air leak detector. Tape a strip of tissue paper to a stick. Hold it up outside windows and doors to detect air leaks.
- Renew a plot of earth by cleaning it and planting flowers.
- Snap photos of creation and use them to make cards to send friends. Inside write a note to rejoice in the beauty of the world God made.
- Plan a party at a park. Choose fun activities like sports, hikes, or a picnic. Also choose something to do to help the park, like picking up liter.
- Visit a farmer’s market and pick out some local grown produce. Try using the produce in a new recipe.
- Discuss ways to save water and try a few.
- Dig up one square foot of soil and count the worms in the dirt dug. Ten or more means the soil contains lots of organisms and is good for growing plants.
- Grab some items to be recycled (empty bottles, CD, etc,) and try making ornaments or jewelry from them. Praise everyone’s creativity.
- Do something to care for critters. You could out water and food for birds or wild animals of make dog toys for an animal shelter.
- Enjoy a local water beach, lake, or river.
- Recycle all that you can.
