Resources for Fireside Chats

Looking for some audiobooks for those chilly days and nights that can foster conversation in your home? All kids can warm up to at least one of these stories—the images and lessons will be remembered for years.
Focus on the family has a Radio Theatre and a stash of audiobook resources to delight children of every age. I picked out a few for your perusal that seemed to reflect the Fall season. And many of them are on sale!
The first, The Screwtape Letters, is perfect to gain perspective of Halloween, which many celebrated yesterday. We don’t think enough about the influence Satan can have in our lives. We either ignore him or have an unhealthy interest in him (as C.S. Lewis deftly said with better wording.)

The second is a favorite of many: The Narnia Series. Most have read the books, but have you ever listened to them? You will be carried away into the enchanting land with expert actors and sound effects. It’s worth a listen!

The third, in preparation for Thanksgiving, is The Legend of Squanto. My son and daughter listened to this audiobook in the car each of our ten homeschooling years. We still remember many tidbits of information we found fascinating, and were reminded once more of God’s amazing providence during the early years of America’s existence.

And then, there is Billy Bud, Sailor. A difficult story to accept, but the concept offers so much for discussion. What is honesty? Justice? Must life be fair? You might even shed a tear or two!

Lastly is the beloved Anne of Green Gables. She loved the fall, especially the month of October. Well, that month is past, but you can still sense her passion for the season as you listen to the delightful and sometimes naughty antics she fell prey to. They will make you laugh!

There are so many in the Radio Theatre Shop to choose from. Why not ask each family member which one he/she would prefer, then take advantage of the sale. Its a great way to stock up for Christmas gifts that keep on giving!
Have you listened to any Radio Theatre audiobooks? If so, which are your favorites? Let me know below.

Thanks for this, Jarm! Several of my grand children loved Adventures in Odyssey and one still listens to it while eating breakfast, brushing her teeth, and during some quiet play on her own. (I’m more apt to listen while on a trip in the car.) Audiobooks are a great way to grab a kid’s interest. I’ll be checking out these for some of my older grandkids. Thanks for sharing.
