Children’s Bible Stories for Bedtime
One of my favorite childhood memories is having my mom read from a children’s Bible storybook at bedtime. It always calmed me and made me feel secure. Every child deserves to have a positive and meaningful bedtime routine, and Julie Lavender’s Children’s Bible Stories for Bedtime will help parents provide that for their children.
With this collection of Bible stories, parents and kids can calmly end the day together in the comfort of God’s presence and peace. These favorites of key biblical figures and their ancient adventures inspire young curious minds to build a relationship with God and ponder about His never-ending love. Children’s Bible Stories for Bedtime features essential stories from both the Old and New Testaments that are written and interpreted for biblical accuracy and age appropriateness for kids 4–8. Brief reflections at the end of each story help kids understand God’s Word as it relates to them personally, and the prayers encourage kids to speak openly and build a relationship with God.
I asked Julie to share a few words with us about this meaningful project. Here is what she had to say:
“I’m just fascinated with God’s Word, and I especially love collecting and reading children’s Bible story books. When I found out I’d have the opportunity to write a children’s bedtime Bible story book for parents and kids, I was thrilled to launch into the world a Bible story book with my name on it as the author! I had the most fun diving into the Bible to pick and choose and research the 52 stories I wanted to include in my book. In our home library, I have more than two dozen children’s Bible story books. Some of these are short, toddler-style ones I purchased when my now-adult kiddos were born, but most of them contain lots of Old and New Testament stories. I loved reading Bible stories to my kids when they were little, and they would curl up in my lap as we rocked and read and pointed at the pictures. Later, we read aloud as a family during our homeschool lessons, and the kids sat in rapt attention, especially during some of the lesser-known stories that they hadn’t heard very often. Even beyond those days, I loved sharing Old and New Testament passages and stories when I volunteered in our church youth and college ministries. It’s been my honor and privilege to pray every day for those who’ll come in contact with this book — for the children, as well as the adults who love them, to fall in love with God’s Word, one treasured Bible story at a time. I long to know that families are drawing closer to one another as they draw nearer to God with each story they read and hear. I love thinking about families snuggled up together, just before bedtime or any other time of the day, etching God’s Word on their hearts. I’m so glad God gave me the opportunity to take part in this project, and I hope others love the book and God’s Word as much as I do!”
Children’s Bible Stories for Bedtime is published by Zeitgeist, a Penguin Random House imprint. It is beautifully illustrated by Shahar Kober with full-page pictures for each story to help children visualize and immerse themselves in God’s Word.

Is there a better way to tuck your children in at night than by filling their hearts and minds with stories from God’s Word? I think not!
