Action Faith Life
Make the themes of Bible stories come to life by applying them to our daily life.
I remember once I was driving my 5-year-old to swim class downtown of Chicago. (Alone)
I got lost.
Yes, why not?
I panicked.
That is pretty much what I do in Chicago traffic anyway.
But then it hit me! My sweet daughter was also panicking in the back seat. She was following my example!
God brought to my memory the Bible story we read before coming to swim class. It was David and Goliath.
As I looked at the (scarry) tall buildings downtown Chicago, I felt like David probably felt. I was just like David in the story. And I called out to my daughter. “It is time to have faith! And stand with courage.” My 5 years old peeked at me through her tears and was intrigued. She stop calling for her dad, whom she thinks is the best driver in the whole wide world and she listened to me.
So, I used a simple sentence to point her to the story. I said: “We have to pray that God will take this Goliath down for us. We need to have faith.” She perked up. She loved the story of David and Goliath.
I tried to be redirected by the GPS at the same time as I tried not to be hit by another driver and as I tried to ignore the horns and the suggestive fingers I was getting. But I got my daughter’s attention. She started pointing out to the building and calling them Goliath. And we prayed.
And as I tried to maneuver Wacker Drive she said to the buildings: “Mom will get you a stone, you Goliath!” And laughed
When we finally arrived at swim class she praised God.
Love this story! And what a great reminder to trust God in all circumstances.
I’ve been in Chicago traffic. It is NOT FUN. Kudos to you for being a great model for your daughter.
