The Rhyme Bible

This fall I have the privilege to teach an elective Bible class in our local public high school. The students will meet every day and at the end of the semester be given a high school elective credit. I have a teacher’s guide and all the “stuff” that goes with teaching but not having taught high school before I know this will be a new challenge. I wonder just how much my students will know. I am reminded of the scripture from Paul to young Timothy.
and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. ~ IITimothy 3:15 (NKJV)
Timothy learned scripture from his mother and his grandmother. It’s often hard to get young children to sit still even for a few minutes to read a story but there’s something special about a rhyme. The rhythm, the language, and the message all work together to get our attention. My dad loved children’s rhymes. I can hear him now repeating One bright day in the middle of the night, Two dead boys got up to fight. etc. And one of his favorite songs to sing for us was There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly. I was introduced to The Rhyme Bible by L.J. Sattgast by another grandmother. My grandchildren were fascinated by the poems that told them Bible stories they were just beginning to learn.

The pictures were child friendly and the words were easy and concise.

The stories are both Old and New Testament beginning with creation and ending with the first two chapters of Acts. The scripture references underneath the title of each new story help older children and adults find more details. I find this Bible storybook an excellent beginning for reading to preschoolers. I’m hoping my classes of high schoolers have been introduced to Bible stories as young children. I’d like to be able to help them go deeper and learn to apply the stories to their daily lives. I’m grateful for the opportunity to teach these students this fall at whatever level of understanding they have reached. May this Bible storybook encourage you to begin your child’s education, especially Biblical education at an early age.
Blessing, Gail Cartee

I’m thrilled with your opportunity to teach a Bible class in a high school. I pray you will have a successful experience and that your students will grow in their understanding of the Bible and will develop a hunger to learn more. Your Bible storybook looks like fun. Your HS students might be amused by the stories as a springboard to more serious teaching on the accounts.
Ha! I hadn’t thought of that. I may just give it a try.
Wow, Gail, what an opportunity! And a challenge! And thanks for sharing this Bible, too. :o)
I loved using this Bible Storybook with my grandchildren who always wanted to hear the next story. I hope other parents and grandparents find it helpful.
What a great opportunity!
Thanks, Claire. Prayers appreciated.
