Amanda Cleary Eastep is back with the latest installments of the Tree Street Kids, a new Middle Grade series by Moody Publishers. If you’re looking for a funny, faith-based, educational, hope-filled, and light-hearted book series for your kids, you will want to check this one out!

In book 3 entitled Lions to the Rescue, Jack is starting  a new school and wants to make more friends. To do this, he joins the Library Club (I loved all the wonderful literary recommendations) and the Football Club (I also loved the football focus). Jack and the neighborhood kids build a bicycle bookmobile out of Ellison’s bike. Jack finds that friendships can be challenging, and he does something that really hurts his friend Ellison. The book shows how to resolve conflict in a healthy way. I love how the friendship dilemmas that the characters deal with ring true to life.

In book 4 entitled Mystery in the Crooked Creek Woods, Jack and his friends team up to solve a mystery involving fossils, arrows, a box, and “the neighbors.” As a rookie detective, Jack learns the importance of letting the evidence lead to the guilty person instead of judging who is guilty and interpreting the evidence with bias. All this plus humor, 1990’s details, a cool mystery that the characters write themselves for a school contest, and more.

I love how faith in God is woven into this series in a natural way. The author has a way of weaving so many layers into the lines of her story. The humor and characterization are perfect for this age. Give this book series a try, it will keep you turning those pages!
