Who God Wants Me to Be

When I was growing up, I wanted to be a schoolteacher. I often pretended my dolls and stuffed animals were my students. I would arrange them on the stairs to teach them songs and tell them stories. I never imagined being anything else, but I also wanted to be a mom and knew someday, I would do both.
I went to college in the 70s when females were earning degrees and pursuing careers like never before. However, career options for females were limited. Most of my peers sought nursing degrees or teaching degrees. Today’s girls have many more choices and are not limited by their gender. When Michelle Lazurek invited me to co-author a picture book for girls empowering them to pursue their dreams and seek both traditional and nontraditional careers, I was happy to jump onboard.
Who God Wants Me to Be will be released on September 20, published by Waterbrook&Multnomah. The colorful illustrations by Sandra Eide feature four girls of different ethnicities who dream of their future careers—and change their minds a few times! From a becoming doctor or an architect to a firefighter or stay-at-home mom, a dozen career options are explored by the ambitious girls who aren’t afraid to dream big.
The main take-away message for girls is to not only dream big, but most importantly to become the women God created them to be. Whether it’s serving, teaching, healing, creating, or nurturing, we are God’s children and were created for a purpose.

I too have this book—beautifully written & illustrated!
Through it girls will be inspired & encouraged to explore opportunities and to ask God what His plan is for their lives.
