Cozy Up to These Clean Reads
With winter in full swing, the cooler weather prevents many outdoor activities. It’s a great time to cozy up to a good book. Of course, you can check out the books by our talented crew of authors on the blog. Here, I’m going to feature a few clean reads you can confidently share with your family.
Picture/ Board Books
Too Many Pigs in the Pool by Wendy Hinote Lanier- I recently picked up this book, and I loved it. The pigs are adorable, and the humorous, math-based story is fun.
Bedtime With Mommy by Nancy I. Sanders- This book is beautifully illustrated and, paired with the heart-warming rhyme, is sure to be a bedtime favorite.
My Arms Will Hold You Tight by Crystal Bowman- Like Sander’s book, this rhyming text shows heartfelt love between animal parent and child.
Evie’s Field Day: More Than One Way to Win by Claire Annette Nolan- This book holds a good lesson about being a winner. I love the illustrations—the main character is adorable.
Baby Jesus, Messiah by Janice Green- You can’t go wrong with a Bible story! Green has a few in her pocket you can share with your family.
Our God Is Bigger Than That! by Michelle Medlock Adams- This book is specifically geared for children who are grieving. And, while I hope your year is full of smiles and laughter, it’s nice to have a resource on hand for those times when tears fall.
Middle Grade Books
Jeff Pennant’s Field Guide to Raising Happy Parents by Kelli McKinney- I love the humor in this book. It’s similar to Diary of a Wimpy Kid but without any teasing or bullying going on. Told in first person, the MC does his best to keep his parents happy and still get what he wants.
The Bronze Dagger by Marie Sontag- This book is perfect for those who love historical fiction. It follows young Sam as he unravels mysteries and faces danger in ancient Egypt. Sontag weaves real life characters and historical events into the first book of this trilogy.
Legend of the Storm Sneezer by Kristiana Sfirlea- This award-winning book is the first in the Stormwatch Diaries trilogy. It’s packed with humor, mystery, memorable characters, and imagination. Since it’s fantasy, expect to see wolves and wizards, but the star of the book is an angel.
Young Adult Books
Mortal Sight by Sandra Fernandez Rhoads- I read this two-book series in a matter of days. Reminiscent of This Present Darkness but without blatant Christian references, this fast paced and action-packed contemporary fantasy will keep you on the edge of your seat. It won the Christy Award for Christian fiction.
Inside the Ten-Foot Line by Lori Z. Scott- This first book in a new YA sports series features a high school volleyball player. Action on and off the court bumps the reader from everyday drama to a life-threatening situation. Peppered with humor and a clear message of faith, this book is sure to please sport—and non-sport—enthusiasts.
Wraithwood by Alyssa Roat- This Realm Award winning fantasy book is the first in a trilogy. As a retelling of Arthurian legend, it has magic in it, but it’s a clean, enjoyable read with a nice balance of mystery and whimsy. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Blaze by Hope Bolinger- Written for a contemporary audience, this first book in a trilogy takes a cue from the story of Daniel. The main characters are firm in their Christian faith and the villains are starkly evil.
There are many other amazing clean-read books out there you can enjoy this year. If you have any recommendations, please leave a comment!
