Happy Independence Day! Just for fun, I created a puzzle to give you a chance to see how well you remember the words to our National Anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner.” Starting at the top left box in this puzzle, draw one continuous line through all the words in the puzzle. I colored the words to make it a little easier, but pay close attention. Two words of the same color can still come beside one another. I also noticed one place where the word “the” could possibly lead you in the wrong direction so have the next word in mind before continuing your line.

I also asked my very talented grandson, Jonathan Huff, to create a drawing to go with my puzzle at the last minute, and he graciously drew this on his phone and sent it to me. Happy Independence Day! Copy and paste the coloring page and puzzle into your printing software and enjoy.

Several videos have been created to tell the story of what happened the night the Star Spangled Banner was written. Historians are disputing the details so I’ll offer two and let you decide for yourself. In this day of people re-writing history, that’s the best we can do. One thing is certain, the patriotic American’s were not willing to give in to the aggressive Britain Military.
