Christian Children’s Books that help your little ones understand scripture.
Christian Children’s books should help our children understand the Bible. Do you know people who naturally speak passages of scripture in everyday conversation? I have always envied them. Recently, I came across a Christian Children’s author who does just that. I recognized many scripture verses and passages throughout her Christian children’s books. Her name is Cheryl Delamarter. I will share two of her Christian Children’s books in this article, with more in future posts.
I love to find Christian Children’s Books that allow the Holy Spirit to produce His fruit through us. I want to live each day fruitfully. Therefore, as I share these books with you, I will also consider how the fruit of the Spirit is explained and illustrated. The second book will make an obvious connection.
A Fruitful Little Lamb
“Follow Me, Little Lamb” is a Christian children’s book that sweetly illustrates how Jesus acts as a shepherd to us. Readers will recognize the 23rd Psalm and other scriptures within the text. The principles within Psalm 23 are made clear through the artwork of a cartoon sheep and Jesus figure. The text’s narrator refers to the reader as “Little Lamb.” Consequently, each page explains how the shepherd cares for his sheep. For example, when the little lamb chooses the wrong path and walks away, the shepherd chases after it. The shepherd invites the lamb to follow him and explains why his ways are best. The little lamb is invited to streams of living water and green fields already prepared. The shepherd offers the little lamb rest and protection. Likewise, the shepherd provides light to help the little lamb through the night.
Cheryl Delamarter‘s style is to explain the scripture through text and pictures. Therefore, you won’t find an exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution in the book. However, this Christian Children’s book is an excellent resource to help children understand the 23rd Psalm and other biblical truths about Jesus. The text shows a loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, and good shepherd. As the little lamb learns to trust the shepherd and not be afraid, it becomes thankful and happy.
Ultimately, the little lamb discovers that Jesus loves it always and forever. With his love, it will be a fruitful Little Lamb.
A Princess Forever
The second book is “A Princess Forever, Reflecting the Fruit of the Spirit as a Daughter of the King.” When I discovered that Cheryl’s book combined the idea of being a princess with growing the fruit of the Spirit, I had to share it.
In the book’s introduction, Cheryl explains how a little girl can become the daughter of King Jesus, making her an actual princess. The sometimes rhyming text then goes through the life-changing traits within the fruit of the Spirit. Each attribute is explained with further scripture references and adorable princess illustrations. The design and print quality of both books are state-of-the-art. The covers are soft to the touch, and the layout by Bruce DeRoos will make children grab the book and read it again and again.
I have been sharing lessons on the Beatitudes on my website. The sixth Beatitude, Blessed are the Pure in Heart, encourages students to realize they are royalty. As sons and daughters of King Jesus, they become a prince or princess. If you have visited that site, you know that Little Pot is a character in the Christian children’s books about a potter and the different vessels he creates. It is a vessel that holds many additional items for the potter. As it does, it tries to discover its purpose. Eventually, Little Pot learns it is a fruit pot in which the potter grows his fruit. Little Pot’s process to grow strawberries mirrors how our creator produces the fruit of the Spirit through us. You can sign up to be a fruit pot like The Little Pot and learn more about that process here.

Thank you for sharing these books with us, Dawn. I was not familiar with them. We need to keep supporting children’s books that are true to scripture.
These look amazing!
