I hope you’ve been enjoying our study of some of the famous men of the Bible. (I promise we’ll learn about famous women, too!) We’ve looked at the lives of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob so far. If you missed any of these, you can grab them all at the links below. This month, we’re going to start exploring the life of Joseph, one of the most fascinating people in the Bible. When it starts, Joseph is 17 years old, but as we’ll see again and again as we journey through the Bible, it’s the attitude of your heart, not your age, that God is most concerned with.

This set of activities focuses on the parts of Joseph’s story shared in Genesis 37, 39, 40, and 41. It looks at Joseph’s coat of many colors and his dreams, his being sold into slavery by his brothers and the accusation by Potiphar’s wife, the dreams of the cupbearer and the baker, the dreams of Pharaoh, the rise of Joseph as a ruler of Egypt, and the birth of his sons.

The activities encourage kids to take a closer look at the people and events of Genesis 37 and 40. It asks them to look at some of the problems in Joseph’s family and reflect on how individuals could have possibly handled them better. It challenges them to look at the attitudes of Joseph’s heart, to notice what Pharaoh noticed about him, and to apply that to what God wants our attitudes to reflect.

Other activities include unscrambling words from Genesis 37 and 39, completing a word search, solving a true and false about what they’ve read (and correcting the false statements), and solving other word puzzles. Students can choose key verses from the passages to memorize and also summarize what they read.
