The Legend of Christmas, An Untold Story of the Real St. Nicholas
Have you ever struggled with Santa Claus becoming more important than Jesus? If you have wanted to keep Christ the center of Christmas without squelching the fun that believing in Santa brings to your children, I have a book for you! This newly released Christian Children’s book will help your children learn about St. Nicholas and how he connects to the birth of Christ.
To believe in Santa or not?
As a Christian school principal, I found it hard to navigate between students who believed in Santa and families who felt the idea of Santa conflicted with their child’s belief in Jesus. Consequently, when children reach an age where they question if Santa is real, they might also ask if Jesus exists. Therefore, sharing the truth about St. Nicholas and Jesus is essential. The stories can support each other and do not contradict one another.
Knowing the true story of St. Nicholas helps.
In The Legend of Christmas, An Untold Story of St. Nicholas, author Theresa White shares who St. Nicholas was. Through the text and beautiful illustrations by Dave O’Connell, the reader discovers that St. Nicholas was an orphan whose mother had taught him about the birth of Jesus before she died. He was known as the Bishop of Mayra and was a man who gave gifts to the poor. Stories spread about his generosity and bravery. Consequently, Roman soldiers beat St. Nicholas and put him in prison with other Christians. Eventually, Constantine the Great became emperor and freed St. Nicholas with all the other Christians. He also declared December 25th as the day we would celebrate Christmas.
Nicholas continued to serve Christ, and stories about him spread worldwide in connection with the Christmas holiday. Whether or not you teach your children to believe in Santa Claus, understanding his backstory will help them keep Jesus at the center of Christmas.
