How to be a Masterpiece in the Puzzling Journey of Life
I love to work on puzzles. I get obsessed with completing them and find that I cannot stop once I start. As I search for specific pieces, I often think, “This piece must be missing.” Then, I discovered it was there all along. There is something about the idea that the pile of pieces in front of me can become a beautiful image. It only takes time and effort to connect them. Every piece has a specific design and shape, making it the only possible solution for the space within the picture. No piece is more important than another because it takes every single one to complete the “big picture.”
Where is the Missing Puzzle Piece?
Liz Pitman wrote a Christian children’s book, Where is the Missing Puzzle Piece. One day, she discovered a lonely puzzle piece on her kitchen counter. Realizing she would probably never find the puzzle box it belonged in, she started to throw it away. Then, the Holy Spirit stopped her and began to reveal an essential lesson to her. She identified with that puzzle piece, not knowing where it fit or belonged. Liz was in one of those transitional seasons where we question whether God still needs us and where we fit.
From this profound experience, Liz penned a Christian children’s book that speaks to all ages, delivering a universal message of identity, worth, and purpose. As readers follow the journey of a small puzzle piece named Pete, they are inspired by his struggles to fit in and be like every other puzzle piece in the town of Jigsaw. Pete’s journey is a powerful reminder that we all have a unique purpose, and it’s not until he encounters a boy named Will that Pete’s life takes a transformative turn. Recognizing Pete’s potential, Will encourages him to return and pursue his dreams. Inspired by Will’s belief in him, Pete returns to Jigsaw and steps into his purpose, forever changed by the encounter.
We are God’s MasterPIECE
A popular narrative in many books is known as the Chosen One Narrative. We love these stories because we have an innate sense within that we all want to be special. I believe God created that within us because He has chosen each of us and sees us as unique and special pieces of His creation. Ephesians 2:10 in the Bible says, “For we are his masterpiece created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Where is the Missing Puzzle Piece is a story that not only allows children to see they have an important role to play, but also emphasizes the importance of connecting to others. Just as puzzle pieces need each other to complete the picture, we too need each other to fulfill our purpose, creating a beautiful and unified ‘big picture ‘.

I just met the author at a conference, and she is an amazing woman. I love this God-inspired idea and am sure families will love this book with such a valuable lesson. Thanks for sharing, Dawn.
What a unique way to address a real concern for children of all ages.
