Nature Experiments and Fun
Enjoy the great outdoors of the summer. It’s time to look around and enjoy the green grass, flowers, and leafy trees. It’s time to picnic, enjoy playing at a park, and splash in water to rejoice at all God made. It’s also time to go greener and help God keep the world he made looking beautiful.
Read Romans 1:20 and chat about how creation is a witness of God’s existence. If we help care for creation we are also helping to keep God’s witness strong.
Try these activities to be green:
- Be an air leak detector. Tape a strip of tissue paper to a stick. Hold it up outside windows and doors to detect air leaks.
- Renew a plot of earth by cleaning it and planting flowers.
- Snap photos of creation and use them to make cards to send friends. Inside write a note to rejoice in the beauty of the world God made.
- Plan a party at a park. Choose fun activities like sports, hikes, or a picnic. Also choose something to do to help the park, like picking up liter.
- Visit a farmer’s market and pick out some local grown produce. Try using the produce in a new recipe.
- Discuss ways to save water and try a few.
- Dig up one square foot of soil and count the worms in the dirt dug. Ten or more means the soil contains lots of organisms and is good for growing plants.
- Grab some items to be recycled (empty bottles, CD, etc,) and try making ornaments or jewelry from them. Praise everyone’s creativity.
- Do something to care for critters. You could out water and food for birds or wild animals of make dog toys for an animal shelter.
- Enjoy a local water beach, lake, or river.
- Recycle all that you can.
Add fun with art and puppetry
- Make nature prints with dipping leaves in paint and pressing them onto paper or press flowers to dry and save them.
- Make an album of your photos and add drawing of nature.
- String flowers to make a wreath to wear.
- Make a paper sunflower puppet and use it to talk about nature.
