Courage Like Kate: Book Review and Discussion Questions
Courage Like Kate written by Anna Crowley Redding and illustrated by Emily Sutton is the inspiring true story of a girl lighthouse keeper. Kate considers herself to be her dad’s assistant. He trains her to do responsibilities that girls in the 1800’s don’t normally do. When her dad can’t climb the lighthouse stairs anymore, Kate steps in and keeps the wicks lit. This job is not easy. You can’t help but be inspired by this amazing woman who became an official lighthouse keeper of Feyerweather Island in 1871. During the course of her life she even saved 23 lives.
