Wonders in the Heavens
The last two weeks have given us amazing night skies. First, the Northern lights were visible as far south as Alabama. The following week a meteor, (Tsuchinshan-ALTA) was visible just after sunset in the western sky near the horizon.
Have you ever wished you had been with the shepherds that first Christmas night to witness the bright light and the angels singing? What would it have been like to travel with the Wisemen following a star in the western sky?
I hate to miss the best play of the football game or the catch against the backfield wall of the baseball game, but they’ll show the replay a dozen times for those of us who missed it. It’s not quite the same as seeing it firsthand, but it’s still exciting. Maybe we get replays from God and we still fail to see the magnificent displays He puts right in front of our eyes.
That first Christmas night the sky was clear and suddenly a bright light shined. The angels appeared singing, “Glory to God in the highest, peace, goodwill toward men. The occurrence was only visible to the shepherds while the rest of the world slept or busied themselves with other things. My friend alerted me to the visibility of the Northern Lights. With my eyes, I couldn’t see a thing. When I pointed my phone camera to the north, suddenly they appeared, pink, blue, and purple. The stars shone through the color. When I posted my pictures other friends wanted to know how I saw them, They couldn’t see them, couldn’t find them, couldn’t find North. Most people were totally oblivious to the night show.
The next week my niece shared pictures of the meteor. I was never able to catch the right timing but I love the picture she shared. Thank you Allison Wofford for the above picture. There, a star in the western sky with a tail as long as a kite.
Has God given us a replay of that first Christmas? Are we paying attention or did it just slip by as just another silent night? I wonder how many people over the centuries have been shown the replay. The Lord is not willing that any should perish. The first Christmas was not just for that time. It is for all time. God sent; he gave his only Son so whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Gail Cartee is taking her phone and a flashlight with a red cover for a night hike. I wonder what wonders I will discover. Be sure to sign up to receive updates of each new post on our Christian Children’s Authors blog. #christianchildrensauthors, #christianhomeschool, #WondersintheHeavens
